Read the hard things.

A reader for the books you have to think about. Select the paragraph that lost you and an explanation opens beside it, so the passage stays on screen while you read.

A chemistry textbook on iPad, the highlighted passage above an explanation of the law of conservation of matter.
A calculus heading selected on iPhone, with Explain first in the selection menu.

Explain

Stuck on a paragraph? Select it.

Tap Explain and the answer opens next to the passage instead of covering it. You can ask a follow-up right there.

Each explanation is saved with the exact text you selected. A month later the highlight is still in the book with its answer attached, which is something a chat window can't give you.

Math comes through intact. Equations are sent to the model as LaTeX, so a dense line of algebra gets explained as algebra, not as the garbled text you get from copy and paste.

An explanation of a calculus passage about limits, opened beside the highlighted text.
The answer next to the passage
A follow-up question about one-sided limits answered in the same panel.

Library

Something to read from day one.

Most reading apps assume you already have files. Readholic opens your PDFs and EPUBs, and it can also download from three free libraries.

arXiv
Open a paper from a link or a search and it becomes a reflowable book with its figures included, instead of a two-column PDF you spend the evening pinching and panning.
OpenStax
Free, peer-reviewed college textbooks in subjects like biology, physics, calculus, and economics. Readholic converts them to EPUB so the text follows your reading size instead of the publisher's.
Project Gutenberg
Tens of thousands of public-domain books. Browse by topic in your device's language, with the most-read books first.

Study

Reading it once isn't learning it.

Give Readholic a passage or a whole chapter and it writes flashcards from it, then keeps quizzing you until you know them.

Quiz yourself with multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, or written answers that get graded. Due cards wait in the Study tab and return on a spaced-repetition schedule.

Generating flashcards from a chapter, with card types and difficulty options.
Cards from a whole chapter
A fill-in-the-blank review card with Again, Hard, Good and Easy grading buttons.
Reviews on a spaced schedule

It remembers what you've studied.

Readholic keeps a short summary of the concepts you have already studied, so later explanations build on them instead of starting from zero every time. You can read that summary, turn it off, or clear it in Settings.

Decks can be shared, too.

In the Forum you'll find decks other readers made for the same books. Only the cards are shared, and only when their author chooses to publish them. A deck you download becomes yours, with its own review schedule.

Languages

Read in one language, learn in another.

The app is available in ten languages and can explain things in sixteen. The explanation language is set separately from the book's, so you can read an English textbook and get explanations and flashcards in Spanish, Japanese, or Arabic.

Privacy

What it doesn't do.

Your library stays yours.

Books, highlights, notes, reading position and review history never leave your account. A deck is only published to the Forum after you confirm it, and only the cards are copied. The book, your notes, and which cards you got wrong stay with you.

No analytics SDK.

Neither the iOS nor the Android app includes one, not even a disabled one.

No ads.

And we have no plans for an ad-supported tier.

Delete all of it from the app.
